The Student Council is created through democratic procedures.
All KMLA students are eligible to vote for Student Council representatives in the school’s three branch government: Executive, Legislative and Judicial. Each branch functions through a check and balance system and separation of powers, and operates independently from the school administration. The Student Council represents and advocates on behalf of the student body, and functions very much like the branches of the national government. Council members are able to hone their creative, problem-solving and leadership abilities when serving, plus deepen their appreciation of how public servants and governments serve citizens and society.
As term limits are one semester, elections take place during the first and second semester. KMLA students oversee every step of the process, from being nominated, organizing campaign rallies and Q&A sessions to casting, monitoring, and tallying votes on Election Day.
