Summer Session Course Offerings

Among schools in Korea, Summer Session is completely unique to KMLA. Over a three-week period, it begins the day after final exams conclude in spring semester. Teachers open myriad courses that extend beyond the regular curriculum, and students register for those that sound intriguing or simply pique their curiosity. Some courses are graded, while others offer two credits. But most classes are zero-credit, which is done to encourage students to explore courses and fields outside their comfort zone.
This year, “Intensive Career Exploration” classes were offered for the first time. In these courses, students selected something specific to their future career plans and then explored those interests alongside a teacher. For example, students wishing to improve female inequality worked with a teacher to open the course “Gender and Society.” And students planning to major in mathematics explored “Cryptography” with another teacher.
A major benefit of Summer Session courses is that students are able to build strong bonds with their teachers because they meet daily for two consecutive periods in each class. At the conclusion of Summer Session, students return home for summer break.
