The Honjeong System

As KMLA is a boarding school, the dorm parents take on the responsibility of ensuring students are safe and sound in the dormitory in the evening. From 9 pm to 10 pm, students in each grade gather at a various times and locations for roll call. We call this Honjeong.
After taking attendance, the dorm parents remind students of important notices. Members of the student council will then make any necessary announcements. Followed by club captains and other groups. Afterwards, any student can speak about whatever they wish.
When the above is complete, all students then stand up and bow deeply to their dorm parents. This serves the purpose of paying respect to their elders, but is also recognized by students as a form of saying ‘goodnight’ to their parents. And is considered the most important part of Honjeong, a longstanding tradition that holds deep meaning within the KMLA Family.
As seen in the image above, strict adherence to COVID-19 prevention measures are being maintained on campus, including during Honjeong.
